With a strong interest in fish ecology, I aim to capture stunning images of aquatic life while also conducting research to better understand these fascinating creatures.
I’m Justas Dainys, a dedicated fish ecologist and nature photographer. I have been fascinated by the natural world since a young age, subsequently developing a life-long passion for observing and photographing plants and animals in the wild. I have a special interest in the underwater realm which is often very close to us but remains mostly hidden from view. With an incredible diversity of plant and animal life, aquatic ecosystems are amazingly rich, yet they are amongst the most threatened in the world and many water dwelling creatures face a threat of extinction. The underwater world is my professional office and the venue for my hobby. For over 15 years I have performed research on the biology and ecology of fish whilst employed at the Nature Research Centre and much of my free time is spent engaging in diving and underwater photography. I created “Waterlife” to showcase underwater life in all its glory. My hope is that the photographs I take allow you to get familiar with the hidden underwater world, to see its beauty, to fall in love with it, and to care for the otherwise invisible aquatic inhabitants that exist right beneath our noses.
